CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM
FIXING OUR BROKEN SYSTEM
The countless police killings and subsequent protests over the last few years have made clear to the world what people of color have known their entire lives—that our policing and criminal justice systems are broken, rooted in bias and racism, and in desperate need of reform.
In the summer of 2020, Rett proudly supported the local Black Lives Matter movement in Beaufort and he will continue to fight for comprehensive criminal justice reform on the local, state, and federal level. Racial bias and excessive force in law enforcement is unacceptable and there must be accountability. Rett will prioritize ending the school-to-prison pipeline, investing in preventative measures like mental health care, and eliminating for-profit prisons.
